Das Emsland galt früher als das „Armenhaus Deutschlands“, hat sich davon aber mittlerweile erholt. Auf den Dörfern wird noch häufig plattdeutsch gesprochen.

Im Januar, Februar gibt es die Boßelparties, auch Klootschießen genannt, wo dann der Bollerwagen voll mit Getränken beladen wird und man versucht mit einer Kugel mit wenigen Würfen über eine festgelegte Strecke zu werfen.

Abends kehrt man ein ins Gasthaus, wo der Boßelkönig dann eine Ehrenrunde übers Tanzparkett dreht.
Im Sommer genießt man die Ems und den Dortmund Emskanal, wo oft Fahrradfahrer unterwegs sind. Der Fahrrad Tourismus hat angezogen, worüber sich viele Gastwirte freuen. Einzigartig in der Region ist das Schloss Clemenswerth in Sögel.
Hervorzuheben ist auch die weltbekannte nach China exportierte Transrapid die man in Lathen besichtigen kann.Im Norden des Emslandes in Papenburg werden die Luxus Kreuzfahrtschiffe der Aida gebaut und ist Anziehungspunkt vieler Touristen…

The Emsland was earlier the POOR HOUSE GERMANYS,but it has recovered now. In some villages some old People still speak the old German slang. In summer you can enjoy the Ems and the Dortmund Emskanal where cyclists often travel. Cycle tourism has attracted much look forward to what restaurant owners.
Unique in the region, the Clemenswerth is Sögel. It should also exported to China, the world-famous Transrapid can be seen in Lathen.In  north of the Emsland Papenburg, the luxury cruise ships built in the Aida and attracts many tourists …
